The Delhi judiciary exam conducted by the Delhi High Court for the recruitment of eligible candidates from legal field for various posts in the judicial services of Delhi. The exam is conducted in multiple stages which analyze the candidate’s knowledge of Indian law, civil and criminal procedure codes, and other legal aspects. Candidates who are successfully completed all the tests are appointed as judicial officers in the subordinate judiciary of Delhi.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The candidate should be an Indian citizenship.
- The candidate should have a LLB degree from a recognized Indian University.
- The candidate should enrolled as an Advocate under the Advocates Act of 1961 with any state Bar Council membership.
- The candidate’s age must be minimum 21 years, maximum 32 years. For SC/ST candidate’s there are 5 years age relaxation, for Persons with Disabilities (identified disabilities) candidate’s there are 10 years age relaxation, for Persons with Disabilities (identified disabilities) belonging to SC/ST candidate’s there are 15 years age relaxation, for Ex-Servicemen and Short Service Commission Officers with at least five years of military service there are 5 years age relaxation.
Exam Pattern:
- The Delhi judiciary exam is divided into three stages.
- Preliminary Exam
- Main Exam
- Interview Round
- In the preliminary exam, there is objective-type questions.
- The main exam is descriptive.
- The interview round analysis the candidate.
- Preliminary Exam:
- The preliminary exam is the first hurdle for the candidates.
- It is an objective exam with questions based on the law topics from various subjects.
- This exam tests candidate’s fundamental knowledge of the law, legal reasoning and analytical skills.
- The questions are mainly based on facts and figures of the various legal aspects.
- The candidates are required to score the minimum qualifying marks to qualify for the mains examination.
- The duration of this exam is 2 hours (120 minutes), where the candidates must solve 150 objective type questions.
- Each question carry 1 marks, for every wrong answer .25 marks will be deducted.
- Mains Exam:
- The Mains Examination is a subjective exam which tests the candidate’s comprehensive knowledge in the field of law and legal concepts.
- The exam consists of papers like Civil Law, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, family law, labour law, State laws, language proficiency and various aspects of legal concepts.
- After clearing the mains exam, candidates proceed towards the final stage of the selection process, i.e., the interview rounds.
- In the mains exam there are 4 papers.
- The duration of this Paper-I is 2 hours (120 minutes), where the candidates have to write the answers of 20 subjective type questions for 250 marks.
- The duration of this Paper-II, III and IV are 3 hours (180 minutes), where the candidates have to write the answers of 20 subjective type questions for 200 marks in each paper.
- Interview Round:
- After clearing the mains examinations, qualified candidates are invited for the interview rounds.
- In this process the candidate’s personality, communication skills, knowledge of the law, and practical applications of rules and legal concepts are tested.
- The interview round scrutinizes the candidate’s overall suitability for the judicial role.

- Preliminary Exam:
The preliminary exam is basically objective types. Where the questions are ask from the various aspects like General Knowledge, Current Affairs, English Language, The Constitution of India, The Indian Evidence Act, 1872, The Limitation Act, 1963, The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, The Indian Penal Code, 1860, The Indian Contract Act, 1872, The Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008, The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, The Specific Relief Act, 1963, The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), 2012, The Commercial Courts Act, 2015 and other law aspects.
- Main Exam:
- Paper I – Divided in two sections which consists of total 250 marks
- Section I consist from the topics related General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Current Legal Affairs for 100 marks
- Section II consist from the topics related Language, Essay Writing, Precis Writing, Translation for 150 Marks.
- Paper II – This paper mainly focus on Civil Law I, which consists the subjects like The Indian Contract Act, 1872, The Sale of Goods Act, 1930, The Transfer of Property Act, 1882, The Specific Relief Act, 1963, Hindu Law; Mohammaden Law, The Delhi Rent Control Act, 1958, Law of Torts, The New Delhi Municipal Council Act, 1994, The Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, The Commercial Courts Act, 2015 etc., for 200 marks.
- Paper III – This paper mainly focus on Civil Law II, which consists the subjects like The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, The Indian Evidence Act, 1872, The Limitation Act, 1963, The Registration Act, 1908, The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, The Trade Marks Act, 1999, The Copyright Act, 1957 etc., for 200 marks.
- Paper IV – This paper mainly focus on Criminal Law, which consists the subjects like The Indian Penal Code 1860, The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2024, The Code of Criminal Procedure 1973, The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2024, The Indian Evidence Act 1872, The Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2024, The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 etc., for 200 marks.
- Interview Round:
There is no specific subject for interview round. In this round candidate’s personality and proficiency are checked by the examiner in various way.
Application Procedure:
- The notification of Delhi Judiciary exam published online on the official website https:/www.delhihighcourt.nic.in.
- New Candidate has to register their name on the official website by clicking on the Delhi Judiciary Apply Online Fresh Candidate tab to create a login.
- Candidates need to provide their basic details like Name, Date of birth, mobile number, and Email ID to create their ID which cannot be modified at a later stage. Thus, they need to fill in this information very carefully.
- The applicant’s login credentials will be sent to the registered email address after a successful registration. Applicants should save this email for future reference.
- Now the candidate should login using the Login ID and Password sent to the candidate via email by clicking on the Already Logged In Candidate tab to Complete the Process.
- Candidate should fill in the educational qualification along with other details like gender, nationality, academic details, address, and contact information on the online application form.
- Now the candidate should save the details by pressing the “SAVE” button.
- If the candidate wants to do some change in the details, the candidate can log in again using the Email ID and Date of Birth and edit the details.
- In the next steps the candidate should upload his/her recent scanned photos and signature.
- After that the payment should make through the process as per the guidelines and then the candidates can take a print of the online Delhi Judiciary application form.
Application Fees:
- Applicants can pay their application fee for the DJS entrance exam online via Debit Card or net banking.
- The application fees depending on the candidate’s category, are mentioned in the website/notification.
- The General category candidates should pay Rs. 1500/- + Bank Charges (If Paid through Net Banking) (No Bank Charges If Paid through Debit Card) [as per 2024 DJS].
- The SC/ST/PWD category candidates should pay 1500/- + Bank Charges (If Paid through Net Banking) (No Bank Charges If Paid through Debit Card) [as per 2024 DJS].
Documents to be uploaded:
- A recent passport-size colour picture, preferably white background, and has no dark shadows. (If candidate wear glasses, ensure there is no reflections and your eyes can be seen. Also, ensure that both ears are visible in the picture. Caps, hats, and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed, but it must not cover your face.) The file is needed to be uploaded in .jpg/.jpeg format and should be between 50-100 kb.
- A scanned signature on white paper with a black ink pen. (Please scan the area only and not the entire page. This signature will be saved with your information, and it should be matched with the signature on the answer sheet at the time of the written test and the interview). The file is needed to be uploaded in jpg/jpeg format and should be between 20-50 kb.
