CLAT COMMON LAW ADMISSION TEST DETAILS

CLAT is the Common Law Admission Test. CLAT is a centralized national-level government entrance test for admission to is a centralized national-level entrance test. The test is carried out in law schools after the 12th grade or Higher Secondary Examination for admission to integrated U.G. programs and after graduation in law LLM (Law for Master of Laws) in law schools.

Eligibility Criteria:-

  • Applicants must hold an Indian citizenship (NRI may appear at the exam)
  • For U.G. level 12th grade or Higher Secondary Examination or its corresponding Exam from which is recognized by board with not less than 45% is mandatory. Whereas for S.C. and S.T. applicants 40% is mandatory.

  • No upper age limit for the exam.
  • For P.G. course B.A.,LL.B. or L.L. B University degree or a similar degree from any recognized University with an aggregate mark with not less than 55%, whereas for S.C. and S.T. candidates 50% marks is mandatory.

Exam Pattern:-

  • This law entrance exam has a time duration of 120 minutes (2 Hours).
  • The CLAT question paper is composed of 150 questions in U.G. level and for P.G. level the paper is composed of 120 questions which is basically multiple choice questions.
  • The total marks in U.G. CLAT is 150 and for P.G. CLAT it is 120.
  • The marking system in both the U.G. and P.G. level is same. + 1 will be rewarded for every correct answer whereas 0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect answer.

Current Affairs and General LegalThe section is based on the theme of current development in India and the world, national and international news, static general knowledge, including arts and culture & important historical events.28-32 questions, or roughly 25% of the paper
Legal ReasoningThe section consists of passages of with topics which may be about actual events or scenarios involving legal topics, public policy issues, etc.28-32 questions, or roughly 25% of the paper
Logical reasoning: The section consists of questions and short passages based on reasoning. The questions would be in the form of syllogisms, analogies, logical sequences, and other relevant topics.  22-26 questions, or roughly 20% of the paper
Quantitative TechniquesThe section consists with questions based on elementary mathematics, fractions, time and work, graphs, numerical ability, probability, elementary statistics, and data interpretation.  10-14 questions, or roughly 10% of the paper

CLAT PG Syllabus:

The PG-CLAT includes;

  • The first section would include 120 objective-type questions. The paper will be based on the mandatory subjects of the undergraduate program  include Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour & Industrial Law.
  • In this section there will be provided extracts from primary legal materials which can be important court decisions in various fields of law, statutes or regulations.

CLAT 2025 Application Process:

Payment: Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/ Paytm/BHIM

The CLAT 2025 Exam application form will be tentatively released in the second week of July 2024. Eligible candidates can register online and fill up the application form, by visiting the official website which is mentioned below.

How to apply CLAT 2025?

  • Registration: To register, enter your name as per the 10th or 12th Admit Card/ Marks Sheet, put a valid email id and mobile number, and other details. 
  • Fill in relevant details: Enter the academic details and contact details. Select the program of study (UG or PG), and enter preferred NLUs in the order of priority from the menu.

Documents to be uploaded:

  1. Front facing passport size recent photograph with plain background (size- within 500 kb, format- jpg/jpeg)
  2. Signature of the candidate (size- within 100 kb, format- jpg/jpeg)
  3. Category certificate if you are applying under SC/ST/OBC (PDF)
  4. Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if you are applying if candidate is P.W.D (PDF)
  5. Relevant certificate issued by competent authority if you are coming under BPL category (PDF)

NOTE:

  • The original certificates/documents issued by the competent authority as prescribed in the brochure must be submitted at the time of admission to the University in the form and manner as described by the respective universities.
  • The photograph and signature of the candidate need not be attested while applying in the Online Application Form.

CLAT 2025 registration fee:

  • Application fees can be paid in online mode only.
  • Application fee for General/OBC/PWD/NRI candidates – Rs.4,000/-
  • Application fee for SC/ST/BPL category candidates –  Rs.3,500/-
  • The cost of previous years’ question papers is Rs.500/- (not included in the CLAT 2025 application fee of Rs.4, 000/- or Rs.3, 500/- as the case may be.)
  • The candidates themselves will have to bear the bank transaction charges for payment of the fee. The actual bank transaction charges will be displayed in the payment gateway page, after choose the mode of payment.
  • Application Fees is non-refundable.

Admit Card/Hall ticket

  • The Admit Card/Hall ticket can be downloaded by the candidate by logging into his/her account from the official website.
  • The date for downloading the Admit Card/Hall ticket will be intimated on the official website.

From CLAT 2020, 22 law schools are attending. Other law schools can use the scores as well. Moreover, many institutions in the public sector, including Oil India and Oil and Natural Gas Company, are likely to use CLAT PG scores for candidates.
