ALL INDIA BAR EXAM (AIBE) DETAILS

All India Bar Examination is an examination conducted by Bar Council of India for law graduates willing to start practice of Lawyer. The candidate will be awarded certificate of practice after clearing the examination and is eligible to practice in any court in India. The exam is conducted in 53 cities of India in national and regional languages.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Members should hold a law degree (3-Year/5-Year) from a recognised institute of law approved by the Bar Council of India.
  • The BCI mentions no minimum marks are required for appearing in the AIBE exam. However, a candidate must secure a minimum percentage or grades in the degree of law as prescribed by university.
  • The candidates should have been registered with their respective State Bar Councils.
  • No upper age limit for appearing in the exam.
  • Candidates awaiting results of final year can apply for AIBE exam, given that they must qualify the degree examination before AIBE results are announced. In addition, they must also get enrolled as an advocate with the state bar council.

Exam Pattern:

  • The All India Bar Examination (AIBE) conducted by Bar Council of India (BCI) once a year in 11 languages.
  • The Examination is Objective in nature and is conducted in Offline Mode i.e. Pen & Paper-based Test (PBT) in various test centers across India.
  • The time given to complete the whole examination will be of 3 hours 30 minutes.
  • The total number of questions approximately, 100 questions.
  • One mark will be awarded for every correct answer and there is no negative marking.
  • Candidates belonging to General/ OBC category must obtain at least 40% marks from the total scores of the AIBE exam.
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD category must obtain at least 35% marks in the AIBE examination.
  • Up to AIBE XV, the exam was a book-and-paper test.
  • Starting with AIBE XVI, only Bare Acts are allowed in the exam room.

Syllabus:

The syllabus if the AIBE is very wide, though the important topics are related to

Criminal Procedure Code, Code of Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law, Law of Contract, Specific Relief, Property Laws, Negotiable Instrument Act, IPC, Evidence Act, Family Law, Law of Tort, Motor Vehicles Act and Consumer Protection Law, Professional Ethics and Cases of Professional Misconduct under BCI Rules, Administrative Law, Alternate Dispute Redressal Including Arbitration Act, Labour and Industrial Laws, Law Related to Taxation, Land Acquisition Act, Intellectual Property Laws etc.

Application Procedure:

  • The exam notification publishes on their official website: https://www.allindiabarexamination.com/
  • The candidate had to get registered and create an applicant account by enter their Advocate Enrolment No.
  • The candidate must fill in various fields in the application form, including personal, educational, and contact details.
  • Essential documents that have to be uploaded include a photograph, signature, self-attested enrolment certificate, and self-attested photo id.
  • The AIBE exam will be conducted in 11 languages. Candidate should select one language and an exam centre.
  • The exam fee should be paid.

Application Fees:

  • The payment should be made through online mode.
  • The exam fee is INR 3500 for general/ OBC candidates and INR 2,500 for SC/ ST candidates.

Documents to be uploaded:

  • Recent scanned photograph, in jpg/jpeg format.
  • Recent scanned signature, in jpg/jpeg format.
  • Scanned self-attested enrolment certificate, in jpg/jpeg format.
  • Scanned self-attested photo id, in jpg/jpeg format.

Admit Card:

  • AIBE admit card will be released by the Bar Council of India (BCI) in their official website.
  • Candidates will have to use their registration ID and date of birth to download the admit card.

Results:

  • After the exam results are declared on the official website of BCI: https://www.allindiabarexamination.com/.
  • Candidate should click on the result link. Provide the login credentials, including user ID and password. The AIBE results will be shown on the screen.
