AILET ALL INDIA LAW ENTRANCE TEST NLU DELHI DETAILS

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is one of the national-level law exam administered by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission to undergraduate (5-year integrated BA. LL.B (Hons) programs), postgraduate (LL.M programs) and PhD programs.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must hold an Indian citizenship
  • Foreign nationals or OCI/PIO are exempted from appearing in the AILET, subject to the condition that they have applied under such categories.
  •  There are no NRI seats reserved in the NLU Delhi.

B.A.,LL.B (Hons) Program –

The eligibility for the B.A., LL.B. (Hons) course is that:

  • Percentage required in 10+2 or equivalent exam, for General – 45% marks/equivalent grade and for SC/ST category/ Persons with disabilities – 40% marks/equivalent grade.
  • Candidates who are taking the 12th or equivalent qualifying exam or waiting for results are also eligible to apply and take the exam.
  • There is no maximum and minimum age limit for appearing in the AILET

LL.M Program –

The eligibility for the LL.M course is that:

  • Percentage required in LL.B/equivalent degree, for General – 50% marks/equivalent grade and for SC/ST category/ Persons with disabilities – 45% marks/equivalent grade.
  • Candidates who are taking the LL.B or equivalent qualifying exam or waiting for results are also eligible to apply and take the exam. However, the eligibility must be obtained by the cut-off date.
  • There is no maximum and minimum age limit for appearing in the AILET.

PHD Program –

  • The candidates must have qualified the UGC NET/JRF/M.Phil and also required to appear in the AILET for getting admission in Ph.D. Programme.

Exam Pattern:

  • AILET is conducted in offline mode. The candidates must use pen to mark their answers on the provided OMR sheet.
  • The examination duration lasting for 90 minutes (1.5 hours).
  • The total number of questions in AILET may vary from year to year, approximately, there are around 150 questions.
  • Each correct answer usually carries 1 mark. For each incorrect response, there is a penalty, around 0.25 marks deducted for each incorrect response.

Syllabus:

Undergraduate (BA LLB) Program-

English: In this section topics may include comprehension passages, grammar, vocabulary, synonyms, antonyms, etc.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs: Topics are related to awareness of current events, both national and international, along with general knowledge topics such as history, geography, economics, etc.

Legal Aptitude: This section questions may be based on in the study of law, research aptitude, legal propositions etc.

Logical Reasoning: The questions may be asked on identify patterns, logical links, rectify illogical arguments includes syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc.

Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): In this section questions may be came from basic mathematical skills such as numerical calculations, arithmetic, algebra, mensuration, etc.

Legal Reasoning: This section basically focuses on comprehend legal principles, rules, and their application to given fact situations. Questions may be framed on legal propositions and a set of facts satisfying the propositions.

Postgraduate (LLM) Program-

Law of Contracts: In this section topics may include on the principles and concepts of contract law, including formation, performance, breach, remedies, etc.

Constitutional Law: In this section, questions of the Indian Constitution, including its principles, fundamental rights, directive principles, separation of powers, etc.

Criminal Law: The questions may be asked on the basis of knowledge of substantive and procedural aspects of criminal law, including offences, defences, punishment, etc.

Jurisprudence: The topics may be came from various schools of jurisprudence, legal theories, and their application in legal reasoning etc.

International Law: This section basically focuses on the principles and concepts of international law, which includes treaties, statehood, jurisdiction, state responsibility, etc.

Property Law: The questions may be appear on property rights, ownership, transfer of property, and related legal principles etc.

Legal Reasoning: Similar to the undergraduate program, this section basically focuses on understand legal principles and their application to given fact situations.

Legal Awareness and Current Affairs: Topics may be discussed on the basis of recent legal developments and their ability to analyse various legal issues in the contemporary context.

AILET 2025 Application Procedure:

The exam notification of the National Law University of Delhi publishes on their official website: https://nationallawuniversitydelhi.in.

Candidates are required to follow the given steps for registration and submitting the application form:

  • Visit the official website > Click on the Registration tab’s “Register to apply now” > Create a signup/login by providing the necessary details > Click on the confirm button to register.
  • After the completion of registration the candidates need to select the law course for which they want to apply.
  • Fill out the application form correctly by providing the mandatory details which are necessary.
  • The candidate should provide his/ her primary mobile number and email ID while registering for AILET. In the column which needed the details for guardian/parents in the application form, please provide the contact details of mother/ father/parent/guardian.
  •  Uploading of the required documents.
  • Candidate can pay requisite application fees through any DEBIT/ CREDIT CARDs, NET Banking, UPI etc. After successful payment of the registration fee and generation of acknowledgement receipt, you will be able to view the same in AILET login.
  • After making payment, the candidates should go through the application form thoroughly to avoid any mistakes, and submit it.
  • For future reference, it is advised to download and take a printout of the application form.

Application Fees:

  • The application fee is Rs.3, 500/- (Rupees Three Thousand Five Hundred Only).
  • Application fee in case of SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) is Rs.1,500/-(Rupees One Thousand Five Hundred Only).
  • Below Poverty Line (BPL) applicants of SC/ST category are exempted from application fee.

Documents to be uploaded:

  1. Recent colour passport size photograph with white background & size as specified (i.e. 1 MB) in .jpg/.jpeg format only.
  2. Photograph should not have cap, goggles etc. (Spectacles are allowed).
  3. The face of the candidate should cover about 75% of the photograph. The photograph must clearly show the face of the candidate in the preview box/page.
  4. The candidate should keep two identical photographs with him/ her, in reserve, which may be used for pasting on the Admit Card at the time of Entrance Test/ Counselling/ Admission if required.
  5. Scanned signature of the candidate on white paper with maximum size of 1 MB in .jpg/.jpeg format only.
  6. Signature should be clear and without overwriting on a white paper with Black/Blue pen within a box of 6*3cms (width*height) and clearly visible in the preview box/ page.
  1. BPL certificate (if you belong to the BPL category) (Max size – 2 MB)
  2. Passport (if you belong to a Foreign National (FN) category) (Max size – 2 MB)

No other documents/ certificates needs to be uploaded in the time of registration. Other relevant documents which are mentioned below must be produce at the time of admission/counselling process.

  1. For B.A., LL.B (Hons.) admission: Marks Statement of Class XII and Class X.
  1. For LL.M admission: Marks Statement of B.A., LL.B. / LL.B. or equivalent; Class XII and Class X.
  2. For Ph.D. Programme admission: Marks Statement of LL.M or any other qualifying examination, B.A., LL.B. /LL.B. or equivalent; Class XII and Class X.
  3. Latest Character Certificate.
  4. Transfer Certificate.
  5. Valid SC/ST/OBC/EWS/ Persons with Disability / Kashmiri Migrant/ Resident of J&K Certificate (wherever applicable).

Admit Card:

  • The Admit Card/Hall ticket can be downloaded by the candidate by logging into his/her account from the official website.
  • The date for downloading the Admit Card/Hall ticket will be intimated on the official website.

Results:

  • The result will be uploaded on the official website – https://nationallawuniversitydelhi.in/ (official website of NLU, Delhi)
  • Login to the portal using AILET registered mobile number and password
  • Click – AILET Result tab
  • The results are displayed on the screen (check the result’s pdf according to the applied course)
  • Download the pdf and take a printout of it.
