BHU UET Banaras Hindu University Undergraduate Entrance Test:

The Law department under Banaras Hindu University located in Varanasi, India. This Law school is one of the earliest departments established under BHU and offers UG, PG and doctoral level programmes such as BA LLB (Hons), LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD to the students.

For UG courses, the University conducts UET during April/May each year. Final selection to be subject to getting merit scores in the entrance exam, the minimum eligibility criteria of the University.

For PG programmes the University conducts BHU PET exam.

The Law faculty of BHU also offers a PhD programme in law at the doctoral level, for which RET exam is conducted by BHU.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicants must hold an Indian citizenship.
• Foreign nationals are eligible to apply.

B.A., LL.B (Hons) –

• Applicant who has successfully completed/ is appearing in Senior Secondary School (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized University of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that country shall be eligible to apply.
• Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission not below 50% of total marks in case of General category applicants, 45% in case of OBCs and 40% in case of SCs & STs applicant.
• General category candidates must not be more than 20 years old as on July 1 of the year of admission (for SC, ST and OBC students, the maximum age limit is 22 years)

LLB (Hons.) –

• A degree in BA/BSc/BCom/Shastri or any other degree recognised by the Bar Council of India securing a minimum of 50% aggregate are required.
• Candidate’s age must not be more than 30 years as on July 1 of the year, in the time admission.

LL.M –

• A degree of 3-Year LL.B. after Graduation or five years LL.B. recognised by the Bar Council of India  with securing a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in LL. B. Degree.

       PHD –

• A pass in any master’s degree with at least 55% aggregate or equivalent grade point average in the qualifying exam.
• Candidates must get a valid score in RET conducted by BHU.
• A valid score in NET (JRF), NET (LS) and GATE are also eligible for direct admission without appearing in RET. However, if candidates from NET (JRF), NET (LS)/ GATE wishes to get admission in BHU research fellowship, they need to appear for RET and get shortlisted.

Exam Pattern:

• BHU UET/PET/RET is conducted in offline mode.
• The examination duration lasting for 180 minutes (3 hours) for UET and 120 minutes (2 hours) for PET
• All exams are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
• The total number of questions are around 150 approximately in UET and 120 approximate questions in PET.
• Each correct answer usually carries 1 mark.
• There is no negative marking in UET but there will be negative marking in PET.
• BHU RET Exam are conduct by two tests.
• Test A: Test A is conducted for evaluating the Subject Knowledge, Assessment of Logical and Analytical Capability and Research Methodology of the candidates.
• Test B: Test B is conducted to evaluate the Research proposal and Personal Interview to test aptitude for research.
• In Test A there is Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) contains 100 questions.
• Time duration is 120 minutes (2 hours).
• Each question carry 3 marks and for wrong answer 1 mark will be deducted.

Syllabus:

B.A.,LL.B –

General Awareness & Current Affairs – The topics are on the basis of current affairs, Indian history after independence, Indian politics, medical science, important dates & years in Indian history.

Legal Knowledge – This sections basically covers Indian constitutional law, Constitutional rights, Fundamental rights, Intellectual property rights.

Mental Ability – The questions may be given from logical reasoning, critical reasoning, and analogy.

English Comprehension – This section focus on spelling corrections and word usage.

LL.M – For LL.M the questions may asked from various law papers such as, Jurisprudence. Introduction, Constitutional Law. (1) Characteristics of the Indian Constitutions, Law of Contracts. (1) Purpose, Evolution and Scope of Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Law of Crimes, Environmental Law, Public International Law, Indian Evidence Act. There is no specific subject was given in the website, the previous question papers contains questions from the above topics.

Application Procedure:

• The BHU UET/PET/RET application form will published on the Official Website of BHU- https://bhuonline.in/
• Applicants can register their name after click on ‘Apply Now’ in front of the entrance exam name with respect to the desired course.
• A new registration window will now open where the applicants must first fill the personal information, according their 10th and 12th-grade certificates.
• Applicants also provide educational details such as their scores, university names, and other required information.
• In next steps applicants need to indicate their course preferences and select their exam center.
• Once all information is correctly filled in, applicants must upload a scanned passport-size photo and a signed copy in the given format.
• After that payment of Application Form fee must be done.

Application Fees:

• The payment should be through net banking or a Debit/Credit Card.
• The Application Form fee for General category applicants need to pay Rs. 600/-, while ST or SC category applicants will pay Rs. 300/-. (This fees structure is applicable to BHU UET, BHU PET and RET)

Documents to be uploaded:

• A scanned photo (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm): 100 KB
• A scanned signature (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm): 100 KB
• Identification documents (Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, bank passbook affixed with a photograph, Driving License, PAN Card, any other valid Government ID number or Class 12 admit card)

Admit Card:

• Admit Cards will be uploaded on the official website of BHU before the Exam.
• Applicants can download the Admit Card using their User ID and password on the website.
• Applicants can save a copy on their phone or computer and print extra copies if needed.
• It is mandatory to carry the admit card to the exam centre. Those who forget to bring the Admit Card to the exam center won’t be allowed to take the test. Additionally, applicants should bring another identification card along with their Admit Card.

Results:

• The result/ merit list will be will be uploaded on the university’s official website.
• To check the result/ merit list, applicants need to use their User ID and password.

BHU Counselling:

• The BHU counselling is based solely on the scores obtained in the entrance exam.
• If an applicant finds their name on the merit list, they’re eligible for counselling.
• Applicants need to bring all the certain documents for verification during counselling.
